Default What am I doing wrong!!!!!

    Help, please.
I am trying to sew down an appliqued maple leaf for some place mats.
I finished 4 months ago and still have 2 to go.
This time as I am sewing it seems like my machine is missing stitches!!!!! and therefore leaving spots unsewn.
Tried making sure I didn't change directions too quickly but it is even on some straight parts.
I have no idea what to do. The last 2 placemats look bad compared to the first 4.
Not too sure how to change tension, as this has never been a problem before. I am truly lost, any suggestions.

When that happens it's usually the needle for me. Try that if you haven't already.

Did changing the needle fix the problem for you?

If you have the applique pieces fused (steam a seam or heat n bond) your needle/thread is likely sticking. Go to Joanns and get a product called Sewer's Aid...looks like a little oil bottle. Put a drop or two down your needle and it will help. You may have to do it periodically, but I got through a huge project with no more issues. Be sure to have a piece of fabric under the needle other than your project.

Thanks for all the help. After changing the needle twice it finally worked. Not on to the quilting and binding.

About 90% of the time when I start skipping stitches I need a new needle. I have to check out the Sewer's Aid - sounds interesting.

I've used sewer's aid across the spool of thread and that helped. sounds more like fusible getting the needle gunky!
