    Default Hunters Star

I always make some sample blocks with scraps before I embark on a whole quilt to see how things work out. I gave this pattern a whirl and tried the blocks with open seams and those just pressed to the dark side. The open seams gives the nicest appearance and eases the matching, in addition to making a smoother center. I hit a couple of those bumpy centers and broke my needle twice. So, the open seams help but really time consuming!

I sewed the wrong sides, ripped and redid numerous times even with a sample block in front of me!! Couldn't believe it was so easy to get messed up only inches from the presser foot. However, I'm glad that I made these practice blocks as I had originally planned a queen size quilt for a wedding gift. It's a challenging pattern and takes time & patience. Considering some health issues and the time needed for this pattern, I've decided to seek another pattern.

I'll use this practice piece for my kitchen as a table topper, OR, it looks as if my little guy, Max, has taken a liking to this little quilt. Thanks for looking.
