    You can get an 8" square from the pages in the phone book, ink does no come off. You need to set your machine to 1.9 or 2.0 stitch length or your paper will tear away easily. I start in the center and work my way out to the side, use different widths of fabrics for a better result. If you choose to do it straight across the paper instead of diagonal make sure you are sewing through the words, NOT the same way as the words go across the paper. How come, I found out the papers tear easier when you sew through the words.Click image for larger version.

    I, too, often use phone book pages. Ink does not come off at all. You get a LOT of pages; great way to use up those bits and pieces piling up in your stash. You don't have to start in the middle; you can start anywhere you like; just cover up the page and trim to the size you want. Enjoy!
