Default Single Irish Chain - any ideas for the leftover singles?

    Hello Ladies!

So I'm in the process of making my first single Irish Chain from Jenny's tutorial. I'm not even done yet and I've learned a few tough lessons. LOL

    1) I wish I'd chosen a different block (like the fence rail) for this fabric (Ansonia Blue/Green by Denyse Schmidt) because I absolutely LOVE it and I'm kinda regretting cutting the strips up so small. It's "sold out forever" on the M* website and so far efforts to find another complete JR have turned up nothing.

    2) Math is my mortal enemy. The tutorial says to use one printed and one solid JR if I want to make a twin - which I did because I only had the one JR, but clearly I didn't need to sew the entire roll into strips sets.

    How do I know?

When I finished making all my little 9 patch blocks for the actual quilt, not only do I have 29 complete blocks left over, but I have 107 middle pieces with nothing left to match it to. ONE HUNDRED AND SEVEN.

So...has anyone seen any block ideas that involve the middle part of little 9 patch block being sewn to something else? I am totally dreading ripping these apart to make tiny 4 patches or something...

I'm not good with pics, but hopefully, if it works, my quilt so far, and my mountain of leftovers...

Everything is going to be alright. Get a coordinating fabric that you like with this one and make 3 patches with the prints on the outside and white on the inside. Now you can make a beautiful quilt that will be totally different. Maybe even find a different solid color that will really pop for the inside color...say like the new orange color. You could then frame each of your nine patches with hst's. I love your new quilt.

Put a complimentary colored strip on each side vertically of those pieces. Then put them in rows one block vertical the next block laying horizontal. There is a picture of it in my Flickr page below, a green, red, and aqua quilt about half was down the page if you care to take a peek.

Seminole on point and then trim. Like this....

This would add nicely to a border or encorporated into the backing.

Orrrrr...kinda like Deegles.....use as is side by side as a border. You can add a thin dark border all around then your 3 patches, ( the whites all together would look like a border) side by side (not sure if they'd be enough to go all around) .......then maybe another thin border.....or not. Last resort, they can always be used in table runners, placemats, etc. all is not lost...actually the possibilities are endless. The ideas above are great too!

I agree with Deegles, add a Seminole border. Thatís what I did when I made my Double Irish Chain.

Here is a picture of the quilt to give you a visual. You could use a complimentary solid for a more uniform look. I used a mix and match for a more Scrappy look.
