    Default Update on my sickness

I have missed my forum friends. Today is first day on pc. I came down with the flu and went thru all the symptoms for 3 days and was feeling better then it all hit me. I couldn't stop the diarrhea and dehydrated, room started spinning and I hit the floor. EMT got me to ER and I was admitted. Spent 8 horrible days there. Very very sick. My diverticulosis was inflamed and treated for that, plus was diagnosed with C-diff. Infectious Disease doctor thought I got it from taking antibiotics. This was all new to me. I was on IVs all the time, now on strong meds. Doctor said it will take long time to get over it, don't know what long time means. C-diff destroys all your good bacteria in your gut. I have not been on pc to do research on it but I believe everything the doctor told me. I was on antibiotics from wisdom tooth extraction and that particular antibiotic is known to cause this. It's called Clindamycin. So beware! Also he said amoxicillin is another devil. I'm up a little each day but still feeling sick. Just say a prayer for me. I do hope to get back to normal soon.

I had excellent doctors taking care of me but not good care from the staff. Guess that is to be expected anymore? Very disappointed.

So sorry this happened to you. C. diff is nasty. As a nurse, it really ticks me off when patients receive substandard care. Poor care from hospital staff is NEVER to be expected. It should NEVER be the norm.

You are undoubtably weakened from all you have been through, and your primary task must be to regain your strength. Do you have family members who could complain to the hospital for you? Most hospitals have a patient advocate or ombudsman. I would start the conversation there.

In the meantime, rest and drink plenty of liquids. Ask your doctor for a referral to a dietitian. What you eat is critically important in establishing the right environment for the good bacteria in your gut to thrive.

I second the recommendation to talk to your doctor and get a referral to a dietician. A good plan is very important in maintaining your "gut health." And while talking with the doctor mention your in-hospital experience and give him examples ... hopefully he can mention it to someone in authority. Directly speaking to the ombudsman is a good idea, too. Sending Get Well wishes you way!
