    Are titanium rotary blades better?

I ran out of new 60MM rotary blades the other day so started searching the net for a deal. I found some for 78 cents from china but the shipping was $10 on 25 blades so that didn't seem like such a deal. THen on ebay I found 10 titanium blades for $9.99 including shipping. I ordered them. Each place I searched raved about the titanium lasting longer than just the steel blades. Anyone have any experience on these? I ordered them anyway and will know and at $1 each they will probably be worth at least that much.

    hi
    am not sure,
but titanium sewing machine needles seem to advertise lasting 5 times longer, a normal needle is 8hrs approx.
so with this info in mind id think the titanium blades would last longer

Only 8 hours life span on a needle, oh I have another BAD sewing habit to deal with.

They - the quilt police - used to say change the needle every time you start a new project. Well, how many quilters only have one project going at a time!

        Hi, Terry,
I have not used the titanium rotary cutter blades. Let us know how they cut.

I am partial to Martelli, and I think someone posted the code for their 50% sale which may be going on now.

I bought 5 titanium blades 2 year ago and just changed out the first blade. It did last longer than the regular steel ~ but then I only used the titanium blade with a Martelli mat so it may just have been that particular combination. I've been going to quite a few retreats recently and use my steel cutter with the mats provided. IMO, the blade/mat combo makes a difference in the life of the blade.

BTW - Terry, did you make it to the Pigeon Forge event?

Re: Are titanium rotary blades better?

I have used the titanium blades and they do have a longer life for me. I don't buy any blades that aren't on sale, so I keep a bit of a supply handy. I'm careful with buying things produced in China (sorry, no offense meant), but I've learned the hard way. Bobbins don't fit even though they are supposed to, blades don't last even half as long, machine feet are flimsy and don't sit as they should. I think you get the message.

Judy, did not get to Pigeon Forge . I have trouble going to things by myself...a little bit introverted.
I try not to buy anything from China too, but sometimes it just happens. If I have a choice, I always pick USA. Went to China in 1996 and was appauled at what liars they were just to get our business. I came home that year and vowed not to buy Chinese products but, alas, it proved to be impossible to complete gut them out of my life.
Anyway..the ones I bought...don't know where they were made. They didn't cost much. I did look at Martelli's web site for the 50% off sale but they were still $2.99 each and that was okay but the shipping was $8 plus which put me over the top in my mind so I went for the ebay product. I knew that it wouldn't really cost them $8 to mail them to me and that is a deal breaker.

Do Martelli blades work with Olfa cutters?

Eight hours for a regular sewing machine needle???? Wow! I didn't know that. Guess I better buy some more to have on hand.

When you hear that tiny popping sound as you sew, that's a sign to change that dull needle.

i didn't know you had to change needles that frequently. I often break them so I probably do change them pretty frequently.

A lot of the computerized machines have a place in the settings which shows how many hours the machine has been turned on and how many of those were actually sewing minutes. I put a little post a note on my machine with each needle change to help keep track.
