hot mess

Boy have I got a hot mess. I'm trying to make Jennys Tranquil quilt. Cut my 10 in squares...sewed one white and one print together..Here's where I went wrong. I was supposed to draw a line down the middle...sew 1/4 on each side...then cut the square in half both ways and then on the diagional lines. Well sir - I sewed around the entire block and then did all those cuts....I now have some sort of triangles....not blocks. Oh and of course I did them all that way

So here's my question.....does anyone know if there is any quilt pattern that would use all those weird cuts. (sorry, unable to post pic)

Should I just start over???

Oh my! I hate it when I do things like that. And I do. I can't picture what the pieces look like, though. No way to post a pic?

I would just play with them and come up with a pleasing design.

Scrap quilt. Add in some scraps from your stash and try to lay out one block that would be about 10" square. Just move pieces around until you get something you like. Don't be afraid to chop up some of the wrong blocks you just sewed together. You could come up with something very interesting! Good luck. And don't be too hard on yourself, we have all made major cutting mistakes. I hope your heart wasn't too set on your original pattern with that fabric.

Were you aiming for HSTs? If so, you could rip your blocks apart then resew the diagonal seam.

You can cut another combination like this and sew them together. I did that when I made this mistake.

Are they half of an hourglass block, if you sew along the long edge?

Oh you poor thing. I've been there and done that. And from all my bad experiences I finally learned to first make a practice block and go from there. That has saved me from wasting fabric. I'm sure you'll find use for those blocks. Good luck.

So, glad you could post a pic. I don't know,,,,I think I would sew two halfs together, white to print, make some squares, square them up to smallest size and find a design that pleases you. These are not a loss! Make "lemonade"... Boy, have I done that!

You can do it!. Just sew them into a square. They'll be pretty. Or, you can take a square and use them on each side. You will form a larger square. Wait...that doesn't make very good sense. Take a 5 inch square and sew the triangle s to each edge and it will make another square.

somehow I knew you'd have a few suggestions Terry. I actually cut out another set of 10' blocks, because I really did want to do the Tranquil quilt. But my mind has been spinning on how to use these crazy pieces. If anything else comes to mind.....please don't hesitate to rattle my cage.

I have lots of suggestions only because I rarely get it right the first time! lol
