Default Will Wonder-Under ruin my iron?

In the instructions for Wonder-Under it says to "Roughly trim around image, leaving at least 1/4" extra around the drawn lines." That means that 1/4" of Wonder Under will go against my iron - won't it stick to my iron and ruin it?

That sounds weird to me. I've used heat and bond, I don't think I've used Wonder Under.

I would probably use my mini iron, just in case.

Are you using the WU for fusible applique?

For most fusible products, you trace on the fusible only and cut it larger around the traced design. That piece is then ironed onto the fabric which should be larger than the fusible. The traced design is cut to the traced edge.

The fusible shouldn't be hanging out past the fabric.

The other option is to use a teflon pressing sheet. The fusible shouldn't touch the iron at all.

See how the fusible is smaller than the fabric?

Rhonda, thank you so much. I am using it for fusible applique.

And you can use a magic eraser to clean the sole plate of your iron.

Step 1: draw design on fusible
Step 2: cut out fusible slightly larger than design
Step 3: iron fusible on wrong side of fabric (slightly larger than cut out fusible
Step 4: Trim fabric/fusible to the actual design size

Never iron fusible to a piece of fabric that is smaller than your fusible interfacing. It will gunk up your iron. (Though there are products to degunkify irons.)

The only time you need the fusible smaller is when you do needle turn applique. If you are doing machine applique, you need to follow midnightline's excellent instructions.

If by chance you do get fusible on your iron, take some clean, used dryer sheets and iron them. They take the gunk off and you can just throw them away afterwards.

Ditto to what Vonnie says. If you do get a little on your iron, an old dryer sheet either ironed or rubbed across the slightly warm iron will take it right off.
