    Lone star attempt 2

    Hi

I am still practice on the lone star block

This time I used 5 fabric instead of 3 fabric. All cut to 2.5" strips. It is getting big !
I did some miscalculation so my strips that I made was only good for 5 diamonds.
So I will have to cut some more.

I have been focusing on how to get those pesky seam to match in the diamond and let me tell you...

It is not that easy as they make it look in the video tutorials.

But After my fourth diamond I think I have found a trick to get my seams to match a lot better then before.

I will continue to make practice block until I think I am ready , then I will get me some fabrics in the color that I want to make. I thinking bright vibrant color on a chocolate background. A bit at the amish color scheme.

Well ,, here are pictures on my second attempt at this block.

To get the seams to match better you need to place a pin through the seam at 1/4inch straight up and down through both pieces. Then place pins on either side of it. You need to sew right over the place the pin was, or the X it makes from the seams. Right throughthe middle of the X. The pin that goes straight up and down helps align that X

Yes, that is the method I use with varied result . I guess I just have to keep practices some more.

Wow! Lookin great. I'm impressed, can't wait to see the final star. If these are practice fabrics, the "real" one is gonna be fantastic!

Looking good. I have done a Lone Star but, used quiltsmart. With this system you use a "fusible" pellon. All my seams and points matched perfectly.
