Default Things your Mom would say

Does anyone else remember those cute or not so cute things your mother would say to get you to behave as a kid?
    Two that I remember are:

Keep it up and I'll really give you something to cry about!

    Pretty is as pretty does.

I'm sure we all have some we remember

    Women are Angels.
    When someone
    break's our wings
    we will continue to
    fly...usually on a
    broomstick.
    We're flexible like that.

Nothing comes to mind right away except when I was getting scolded. It wasn't one name but two. Not Lorie, but Lorie Ann! don't do that! I really knew when she was mad when that Ann came out. lol

Even though my mom loved my given name "Jacqueline Anne" ( she detested "Jackie" and refused to let anyone call me that in elementary school.....whenever she wanted my attention it was "Sugar Anne! PLEASE LISTEN"
    Her two favorite sayings
" Two wrongs don't make a right " often said when my younger sis Sam (we are 18 months apart) did something and wanted to blame each other.
"You Are the company you keep" This was said a lot when we were teens.

My mom used to sing "You Are My Sunshine " to us three girls a lot.....she whistled or hummed that tune when she worked too.

I had long tangly hair as a child and Mom would brush my hair every day, something I hated bc there were no de-tangle sprays back then. I wouldn't dare move or she would swat me in the head with the hair brush (oww that hurt) and say "Sit still or I will pull all your hair out with my bare hands!" And I was honestly sometimes afraid she would. Also, "Wait till your Father gets home!" Or how about this one, " I'm gonna go lay down in the middle of the road and I hope a truck runs me over! Maybe then you'll be sorry!" She never did that of course but threatened to constantly. My Mom was very dramatic when she was in a bad mood. Which was often with 5 kids.

My Mom had a lot of sayings - most of them very wise. The one that came to mind immediately was "in a hundred years, this will not matter". She used that on me when, on my wedding day, we walked into the Church reception hall to discover that a wall had been built down the center of the room the day before! That meant not being able to set up enough tables and decorations, etc. Let's just say it was cozy.

Of course, she was right, because now, nearly 40 years later, it really does NOT matter!

This was one of my Mom's favorites, too.

"The worst deal I ever made was, if you make the dinner, I'll clean up." From 7th grade up, I cooked dinner and didn't clean the kitchen. After I left home, they went out to eat. I still think Dad got the best end of Mom's deal.
