Default My latest project (not quilting)

The last time I made a poncho for myself was in the mid 80's. Actually I had to make two because my mother stole my first one :-).

I get cold more easily in the house now that I'm older. In the winter, yes, I have a quilt over my legs when I'm at the computer and when it's the coldest part of the winter I have heavy curtains...closed..to cut down on drafts. I even made quilted window shades for the three hall windows that were drafty. Sweaters no longer seem to be enough. So I decided time for another poncho (yes I now also have a wool body "blanket" for indoors in the winter :-). I handspun up the wool into yarn, stuck it on my loom and here it is!!! Handspun is actually considerably warmer then commercial wool yarns because you can increase the density. They are also water repellent if I want to wear it outside too. Next I'm going to knit up some fingerless gloves from some angora rabbit I just finished spinning up :-)

That is just beautiful and to think you spun all that yarn as well!! Good to see some of the fiber arts are still alive. Thanks for sharing.

That's so beautiful! When I went to New Zealand I went into a wool shop and it was full of hand made yarns and items made from them. I bought a pair of gloves and a stylish beanie hat. They are twenty yrs old and I still wear them.

That's a gorgeous poncho! I've always been a fan of ponchos and I recall crocheting one for my DD when she was in kindergarten. I also made an all white one for my late MIL. Ponchos are such a nice concept.

You clever thing. What a sense of achievement you must get from spinning your own yarn. The breadth of abilities on this forum constantly amazes me. Thank you for sharing.
