    Default My first custom quilt

This quilt top is sewn by my 10 year old niece, it is her first and she is so proud! I did the quilting and binding for her. My sister purchased some kind of very weird high loft polyester batting, it was very challenging to quilt and little white snowballs where flying all around in my condo. My niece chose a feather meander and clam shells and I did my best. I never really mastered the feather meander, I always have weird spaces left, they are difficult to fill in, but I did my best...

Somehow this makes me feel sad, when I was a child I always thought my parents are able do anything... sewing, making furniture, cooking and they really could do all these things. My niece seems to feel the same about me..now my dad needs a wheelchair and a lot of special help, and I have to hire mechanics when there is something to fix. My mom will be 80 next year, sometimes all these changes really make me depressed.
Sorry, I spent the whole weekend in my parents house helping and spending time with them...it seems this turned me down...

She will love her birds nest snuggle quilt, that's for sure....

That's a really pretty quilt you both made! I think your quilting is great, way better than I could ever do. And as long as she's happy with it that's all that matters in the end. Sorry about the difficulties with your parents. Every age, our own and other family members, comes with it's own set of challenges. Don't feel guilty that you need to call a mechanic to fix things that has been the story of my life. My dh can't fix anything unless it is something repaired with duct tape. You will get used to it.

I often feel the same way after being with my very elderly and fragile parents. You have to shake it off, thing of something funny, a good memory or make something pretty! Like this quilt!. Easy to say, hard to do but necessary.

Do not tarnish how your niece thinks of you, you are obviously an incredible teacher and she knows it!
Blogging ahead.....research in quilting and sewing with a dab of cooking/recipes too.

What a pretty quilt! Your niece did a great job with the piecing, and the quilting is beautiful. You made a special memory together. Great job to both of you.

Looks like a great quilt. Whenever she looks at that quilt she will remember how much you love her and that you tried your best. By the way, I think the quilting looks great and she said she was happy, so go with that.
