Question Ideas for a quilter wife for Mother's Day

    Hi there!

Finally decided to register so I could ask a question. Need some help! Mother's Day is fast approaching. I'd like to get something quilt-related for my wife, who is obsessed with quilting... but I'm struggling on finding what to give!

What I've given her in the past:
    • Gift card for her favorite local shop
    • Quilt earrings and necklace
    • Fun quilt-saying shirt

For Christmas, I gave her a card that said you pick a time and possibly an event at MSQC and we'll make a fun trip out of it... have Grandma take our two kiddos and we would fly down for a couple of days.

So I'm really looking for input from you all about maybe a favorite tool you like to use, something that makes cutting fabric easier... any suggestions really I'm out of my depth here!

Only caveat: I'm unable to go out anywhere to buy it, so it has to be something I can order online. Reason being: I was diagnosed with cancer in March. So I'm currently undergoing chemotherapy... so I'm kind of stuck here at home.

I already have some plans for what the kiddos are going to do (make "quilt pattern" Mother's Day cards) so this would primarily be from me, really letting her know that I love her, love how she's a great Mom, and something to help feed into her addiction.

Thanks in advance for all of your input!

You can buy MSQC Gift Certificates on line through the quilt shop! Hope you get through with your chemotherapy quickly and get to come to Missouri Star in Hamilton! Great vacation spot for a quilter. Keep in touch, this group is a great support group for those needing some extra prayers!

I'm sorry to hear about your health

There are so many things I can think of. One would be a design wall.

Ah, you are as sweet as my darling husband! I'm so sorry of your health issue and will pray for a speedy recovery!
Now, about mothers day! Gift certificates are always safe but not as exciting as unwrapping something someone wants you to have.
6 big rolls of batting will feed an addiction! 3 yards of 108 inch wide backing is always useful! A huge old cutting mat would be fun if she's not already blessed with one. A set of Kai scissor would keep on giving for years to come.
Or, you have a week...you could cut out all the pieces for a quilt from her stash and help her make a quilt together

The Kai scissors are a good idea. Their site ships for free and really fast http://kaiscissors.com/. Good thinking Terry.

Rulers: Bloc Loc Rulers (2 different sizes) (they are pricey, but oh so helpful)
    Rotary blades: 45 mm
    Rotating cutting mat
    Kai scissors
    Aurifil thread collection

I agree with Jean.....you can purchase gift certificates here at MSQC.....that way, she can look all she wants, and then make a purchase !
MSQC has a Daily Deal each day...and their shipping costs are $5 ( Free if you spend $100 ) ..

Here's the link to take a look at the gift certificates that MSQC has to offer !
    https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...-quilt-company

*(when you go to the link for the GIFT CERTIFICATE.....scroll down and you will see other Gift Certificates as well )

Missouri Star Quilt Company has some awesome Templates to chose from ! I really like MSQC Rulers & Templates !

Here's another link for Templates :
    https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...-papers-23-pcs
( you can scroll down and see other templates & rulers for sale )
Of course she might want to "wait" to purchase any templates for when she decides to make a quilt.

Taking a trip to MSQC would really be awesome ! ( lucky gal ! )

I am sure she will love & appreciate whatever you chose to do!

First of all, best of luck with your cancer battle! My husband was diagnosed with bladder cancer last July. After three surgeries (minor ones) in August, he started chemo in September and had surgery in March, then another surprise surgery in April! After the first planned surgery, we were told there was no further cancer found.

Now to the next part. I think a road trip to Missouri would be fun! I went last September for the fall retreat, and will be going again this year. It's a good one to go to! Gift cards for M* or her local favorite shop are also good!

What part of Washington are you from? We live in Tacoma.

So many wonderful ideas - hope you can make the trip to Hamilton when you are up to it. And the cards from the children are sure to be a big hit.

I vote for the large Bloc-Loc ruler which will cut multiple sizes (if she makes a lot of half square triangles) https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...quare-up-ruler The latest issue of BLOCK (Vol 4' Issue 2) shows 70 different ways to lay out half square triangles to make 70 different quilting blocks!

The rhombus template is something unique she probably doesn't have. https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...ombus-template

And if she cuts a lot of yardage (rather than using pre-cuts) a Stripology ruler is very useful. https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...ripology-ruler

If she knows Missouri Star she probably has a subscription to BLOCK magazine but maybe she's missing some back issues or MOD Block (which is not part of the subscription.) https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/browse?q=block

    Hope that helps!

So many great ideas here, hope something clicks with you. So sorry about the cancer, I'll be praying for you and your family.
You sound like a wonder husband and father. You understand the addiction (so sweet) and I'm thinking that whatever you decide, she will be great with it. She's gotta know how you feel about her and the rest would be icing on that great cake!
.... and welcome! There's a wealth of info and some very helpful people here.
