Default Confession and Realization-I am a lazy quilter!

I love my now not so new( 3 yrs and running) hobby/passion of quilting. I love having 3-4 projects going. I love picking the fabrics, thinking of the pattern, considering the color story. I think about my current projects as a calming method in times of work stress. I spend LOTS of time cutting, sewing, cutting again, sewing again ( so amazing to cut up something you've sewed together to create anew). I spend money, too. I value time and money. And I love art and recognize quilting as an art form.
But here is my confession - I will ALWAYS look for a shortcut. I will pin scantily because I hate pinning, even if I know my binding will be off kilter. I will press with steam because it will get seam flat, even if I know fabric may stretch. I will ease rows off by an inch together, because then it will be done. I will chain stitch log cabin blocks even though I had widely varied sizes last time I did it, because, well, it is easier. I will eyeball a diagonal seam on a short square. I will fingerpress because I want to just get one more block done.
I have considered the dissonance between the time I spend and the time I save, and laugh. My natural laziness and my artistry are my shadow and light.

It sounds like you have some great methods going there! I think I am your twin sister always looking for shortcuts and considering ways to make quilt construction a little easier. I like scrappy stuff and actually prefer blocks that are a bit wonky and seams that don't match up.

    Well..we must be triplets!
I take shortcuts too, even when I know I shouldn't. I enjoy the process but I am not overly concerned about getting everything exactly right. I do try to do a good job but sooner or later, I go off track. I ALMOST always like the finished product and that's what counts for me.

As long as you are happy that is what counts. Finished is better than perfect.

But please don't call yourself lazy. Negative words are not good for you. You are making a conscious design choice. Good for you.

Sounds to me like you have it going on!!!! No quilt police here! Time management I learned a long time ago, you deem what is important and what is not and you get to the same place with just a different path than an ocd, perfectionory person (no quilt police with them either) To each his own!
Blogging ahead.....research in quilting and sewing with a dab of cooking/recipes too.

I thought that finger pressing took extra time.

I do not hear anything lazy related in your post. You sound like you have it all worked out in some winning processes.
