Default Quilting Thread for a Rainbow Bargello?

My five year old son has asked for a "rainbow quilt" for his birthday, and I have decided to make a rainbow bargello.

    (See: http://letsquiltsomething.blogspot.a...kona-roll.html)

Now, what the heck do I do for quilting? I mean, I will likely quilt wavy lines along the curves and also stitch some ditches, but what color thread? A gray to try to blend in? Something variegated? I'm at a loss here.

    I would love ideas! Thanks!

I love variegated thread! But black would work! If you want your quilting to be noticed, use contrast. Otherwise use the grey.

If you were doing wavy diagonal lines following the color pattern, you could change colors fairly easily. Maybe a yellow or orange to quilt the yellow to red group. Maybe a teal or aqua on the green to dark blue. Then some shade of violet to purple to go on the violet to dark blue range. I don't use variegated threads as much as I used to. When I do use them I only use ones that have one color family, like yellow to orange in various shades, rather than multi color variegated. The quilt is Beautiful!!

i agree with quiltingaway, if I use a variegated thread it is in just the one colourway otherwise I think it tends to muddle and compete with the quilt pattern and colours. I used a soft grey with my Bargello and was happy with the result.
