If you don't go that route, they can be any size you want them to be.

Or, take some paper and draw a ten inch square, then cut it in quarters on the diagonal. Then measure

Just rewatched the video. These turn out more like quarter square triangles!

I would take two 10" squares of fabric (from your stash) and make it the way Jenny is showing. Then measure the units. I don't see why it couldn't be entirely scrappy on the triangles. But, the checkered parts need to be the same two solids all the way through for the look she's showing.

Hm, I wonder, if I used red and white for the checkered part, and various blues for the triangles if it would look good for a Quilt of Valor? What do you think?

Do you have a large enough stash to cut 10" squares?

Did Jenny mention how many 10" squares are needed?

Go here and scroll to alternative method, and for 10" squares that you cut 2 times, you get 6.72 which you can square up to 6 1/2 inches.

Ok if you are cutting the 10" squares 4 times here is your chart:

Scroll down to see that two 10" squares will get you eight blocks that you will trim to 4 1/2 inches.

    Ok here are the results:
I placed the ruler over the side with the seam showing so I would include the seam allowance, and got 5" on the left side [seam] and the top.
This means that you would use two 5 inch squares to achieve the same results. You would cut them in half diagonally first, then make sure you are sewing the 5" [or short] sides and not the long side together.
