Default Make a "Crossing Paths" Quilt with Jenny! New tutorial

God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The stash to make a quilt to help me cope,
A quilt to give to comfort those I love in times of hurt, fear and uncertainty.
And the courage to keep on sewing when life itself seems held together by a single thread of hope.

I like this one a lot so it's going on my List. I guess this is a mini lesson in bargello piecing.

This is cool! All those seams to match! As she says, you'll get good at it by the end! Is this a version of "Around the World"?

I really liked the scrappy blocks she showed at the end. This one is going on my to do list... if I ever get settled again!

I am sure it is the same as Trip Around the World - just not scrappy. I made my first quilt with this pattern but used just three fabrics.

Any reason why I couldn't do this with a layer cake or two? Cut 2.5" strips and sew together, and then do the seam ripping bit.

The tube & ripping seamed unnecessary and counter intuitive to me. Maybe it was needed because the black squares were the "constants" running through this Irish Chain block?

As opposed to a total scrappy version without a constant color making the "Irish Chain" portion of the block:

If you cut 2.5"strips you'd only get 4 strips of 10x2.5, I don't think the pattern would show very well. 5 strips @ 2" would give you an 8.5" unfinished block when it was all back together. Those 10" lengths will run out fast when you're recutting. Quiltville's instructions for the same pattern oversizes the starting rectangles. Double check this, I'm not quite awake yet.
