I am making an Irish chain for a king sized bed. It is not all sewed together, but I have good idea about the size now. I have decided I want to quilt to be about 10-15 inches wider and longer. I can make more rows and columns, but would not be able to match the fabrics completely. This is scrappy, but I worry that the edge rows would look a little off. Also I am considering a border. What are your thoughts? Thank you.

I would pick one of the greens for a narrow border then use the background for a wider border.

Do you mean you want it a total of 10 to 15" wider/longer, or 10 to 15 " each side?
If total, averaging it to 12", that would be 6" per side. A 2" green border, then a 4" cream border would work.
Or you might try a dark green, then a light green.
Very pretty quilt, by the way.

Very nice quilt. I would agree with what Snip Snip said re: the 6" / side border. I would pull out the greens in the borders. I look forward to seeing it complete! ~smile~

If you can't make it match, then maybe you could make it look different on purpose. Like maybe find a green darker than your darkest one and use the same color all the way around.

You could also use a narrow green or cream border, all around, then add a piano key border.... so many ways to do it. Keep it simple or let your imagination go. Look at other quilts you like for ideas and see what they've done.

I am with the others you should add a dark green and a cream border. In my opinion though I think a piano key border would be much too busy for this quilt. This is gona look wonderful when you are done. Will you quilt it yourself?

If it's scrappy, don't be afraid to introduce a new fabric if you need to. A marble, tonal, etc. will blend well. To get an idea how a piano key border would look, here is a picture of one I made. I used the background for an inner border first so it wouldn't be too busy.

There are a lot of good ideas. I love the two tone green idea. There are some really smart quilters around here!
