Question Is this a good deal on this frame?

Massdrop has the Grace SR-2 frame for $520 right now and I was thinking about it. Anyone have this frame? Do you like it? Any issues?

    I have a Singer S16 I'd use with it.

Would love to hear your experience with it...

I have the Grace SR-2. That is a great price for the frame . It gets the job done, but if I had the money to replace it with a frame that had 3 bars I would. I don't like the fact that my quilt lays in the floor and I have to watch not to step on it. If you notice most post of the picture show a small quilt , a longer quilt falls in the floor. This might work for you if you want to make throws or smaller quilts or don't mind it laying in the floor. The plastic holders clasp things (not sure what you call them) that hold the quilt on the bars split and cracked for me. I found out I have a smoother top and back just pinning my quilts. On the plus side its metal and its sturdy.

Thanks, good to know! I think it's just too tempting at that price even with the little annoyances.

Regarding the lack of the third bar, I was reading this thread and another poster had an nice idea she was using for keep quilt off the floor. I may try it:

"Mine has the third bar but for the batting I use a piece of conduit (less than $5 from Home Depot) and run a piece of paracord through it, then hang that from the frame on both sides. It just kinda hangs there about a foot off the floor."

Yes, that's a great price. I also prefer to have a 3rd bar to roll the quilt top on..I don't like bigger quilts puddled in the floor. I'm using the "Start Right" frame with 3 bars that Grace discontinued when they came out with the SR-2. I also have an SR-2 still in the box. They are practically the same except for one less bar and a different kind of plastic track on the SR-2. Grace Co. sold me the SR-2 for 1/2 price because they have no replacements for the Start Right tracks that will eventually get so worn that the carriage won't move smoothly. When it comes time to switch frames, I'll use the brackets and lower bar from the front of my Start Right frame on the SR-2 frame so I can still have the bar to roll up the quilt top.

It sounds like Grace is a good company to work with if you have any issues. That was great they sold you a new frame for half price since they didn't have parts for the old one!

Ive dealt with Grace Company quite a bit and I really like them. They're polite, helpful and stand by their products. At least that's been my experience with them.

I have a Grace frame and it does have 4 bars. I don't use the 4th for batting. However, there is room under the frame for the plastic storage bins I use for fabric. I line them up to keep my batting off the floor. You could do the same for your quilt top to keep it up out of the way.

I, too, have had good dealings with the Grace Company. I bought a used Little Gracie II and a few small parts were missing. They sent me the parts and the assembly DVD. My memory is that they did not charge me! That seems too good to be true, but that's what I remember.
Toni ... If I keep sewing long enough, will they make their own dinner?
