Default OMG!! Gift of a life time for me!

Where to start! Where to start... Well, it starts when my gramma passed away... 1999. My Dad was gone and so I waited to see if my aunts would pass anything of hers to me ... nothing. Then ... a few years later, while visiting my aunt, she pulled out a few hand pieced quilt tops to show me. She offered me one. It was tiny hand made 8 point stars. The top was a good lap size. She mentioned that she was going to finish the one she kept by hand, because that is how gramma started it. I kept it for a few years feeling too guilty to have it machine quilted. Finally I gave up anc had it quilted. I love it, Its fabrics and feed sacks and I love it. But, I have always wondered what my aunt did with hers. I offered once to have it finished for her... she said no.

A few days ago, I was talking to her.. she is my only aunt left, she is 90, and I adore her. She taught me to make Apple Butter, my gramma's peanut butter fudge, divinity and baked beans. I loved staying with her as a kid, swimming in her pond or ice skating on it in the winter. So, she says to me... "I pulled grammas quilting stuff out of her trunk, would you like to have it?".... Well, YES! I told her I would come get it. We went in two days flat too... so yesterday we went and spent the evening and she gave it all to me. There was four quilt tops, all hand cut and pieced... 110 small 8 point star blocks, 22 Dresden plate blocks, 40 some Irish chain blocks, Some large 9 patch houglass blocks, and some large star in star blocks, then some 9 patch pinwheel blocks, with the patterns from the KC Star she was using, and the templates she had made with cardboard, also cut pieces to make more pinwheels.

I'm blown away... all tiny pieces, she hand pieced each one... Including the two Grandmothers Flower Garden quilts. Some are yellowed, but all are sound. After I piece them, or finish them, I can wash and remove most of the yellowing. I'm just so stoked! I HAVE QUILTS BY MY GRAMMA!! I am going to hurry and get the Diamond Flower Garden finished and give it back to my Aunt!... I hope these pics work!

I know, RIGHT! I just wanna squeal each time I go in my sewing room. I really want to pay someone to hand finish the one for her... but hubs says I need to just get it finished. Maybe M*. I've seen them working on pieces like these, they really do take care.

I think that getting those quilts is like winning the lottery. They are beautiful. I am so happy for you . You can touch, see, enjoy something your grandmother made, its like having a part of her with you. They are where they were meant to be.
