    Dresden Starburst Table Topper help

    Lightbulb Dresden Starburst Table topper
Hi there! Need some opinions/guidence.... i made a dresden starburst, but i want to make it into a table topper. If i fuse it to a piece of fusible fleece and then put right sides together with a backing and sew 1/4 around, do you think that would turn out?IMG_0971.jpg

Is that an opening in the center? If so, I would cover it in some way BEFORE turning. If you are talking about sewing all the way around, leaving an opening on the outside edge, and then turning, yes it will work. Just be careful when stitching the points and when changing direction at the intersection between the plates. Also, before you turn right side out, make a small snip at the intersection, just don't cut into your stitching, and trim the points off When you turn it will lay nice and flat. After pressing and top stitching, it will look great. I am talking about stitching around the outside.
    Hope this makes sense.

yes, thats the opening in the center where a circle would be added later. My thought was to leave that open, and turn it right side out through that opening. Which would be easier than leaving an opening on the edge.

I recently did a few Dresden table toppers. This is the tutorial I used for turning them: http://thesewingfools.com/tutorials/...-table-topper/

It took a couple toppers to get the look I wanted. The first topper had fat, bumpy points. Then I used a thin and slightly stiff batting (it is probably a batting made for a wall hanging or maybe a bag) and trimmed VERY close to the edges before I turned it inside out. Getting the points to be pointy was a learning process for me, but I did finally accomplish it to my satisfaction.

I made the Checkered Dresden for Christmas and just appliqued it to a piece of felt. I did needle turn applique and cut the felt slightly larger than the Dresden.
Quilters never die, they just go batts.

You are exactly right, you can easily turn through that opening. Don't know what I was thinking....I have made a lot of them doing that very thing. Some days those "senior moments" just run amok!!

That is the way I would do it too. Maybe do a stay stitch around the opening before so your seams stay together. Cute! I haven't tried that one yet.
So. Illinois just south of St Louis County
