Default Continuous rectangular spiral wishbone motif (Picture heavy)

This is the Jazz pattern from the book All About Strips. I think this is the first pattern I have done where the entire quilt is made from one big giant block.

I challenged myself to come up with a quilting motif that would work with this unusual pattern. I decided to try a motif that would go in one continuous rectangular spiral from center all the way out to the edge of the quilt. I picked this path to fill the sashing so I would have the lease bulk forced through the harp of my domestic sewing machine. I have heard this motif called different names, sometimes wishbone, figure eight, or herringbone. Here is the path

I am trying to channel my inner Angela Walters on this quilt. I just love her style. She said something like you don't have to figure out how you are going to quilt the whole quilt to get started. Just do the part you have figured out. So I started with the continuous wishbone squared spiral. That part went great. After the wishbone was quilted then it was obvious that I needed to fill in the gaps in between the squared spiral with squares filled with straight lines. Here is a picture to show what a difference adding this quilting to the sashing made.

Then I got stuck and stared at the quilt for three days waiting for inspiration to strike and tell me how to fill in the colored fabric part of the quilt. Finally like a bolt out of the blue the answer came. Nested diamonds.

Wow. Gorgeous quilting. This is one of my favorite patterns. The quilting choice fits perfectly.

You did a nice job on that, Denise. Figuring out the quilt pattern is one of the most challenging parts for me. Usually by the time I get to the quilting, I want the job done! It's wonderful of you to be so patient at that point.

That is just brilliant, the colors seem to dance, and the quilting!
