Default Anyone know what this is used for?

My hubby came home the other day with a roll of fabric I have never seen. It's on a roll similar to a jelly roll but it's about 3" wide and 9"across. It's one continuous strip of fabric and there are several yards on it. It appears to be cotton but I'm not sure. Anyone know anything about this? I've tried to upload a photo but for some reason it's not letting me. Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Judy V.

Off white and a little heavier than regular cotton?

Here's a possibility ~ There's a lady who owns a shop who showed me a roll similar to what you described that she uses for binding.

I have some rolls like this. They vary in width. I think they are mill end rolls from the fabric houses. When I bought that fabric from the woman that worked for the childrens manufacturing plant, there were several rolls ranging from 2 inches to 6 inches wide and there are yards and yards on them. They are good for binding and strips of sashing.

I have seen something similar a long time ago from a sewing factory that was going to be ruffling on a bedspread or curtains.

Is it bias? Some people make rugs from long strips of fabric like this. Some crochet or toothbrush bowls and such. Aunt phylis rugs come to mind and this used to be very popular. The fabric is probably 20 plus years old.

I think I'm a little confused. 3" wide and 9"across sound like the same description to me.

I "think" she means 3" wide strips, and the roll is 9 inches across???

A river can be 80ft wide or 80ft across and a mile long. I'm still confused. lol
