Re: Here I am again! Just want to say " Please do not let trivial crap ruin your holiday"
So sorry you all learned of this diagnosis right at the holidays. I did a quick peak at Google. Just enter Coping with a Brain Tumor or Brain Cancer. Lots of sites popped up. As a nurse, I worked in rehabilitation for 10 yrs. We sometimes had patients who had inoperable brain cancer, or even if they had surgery, the surgeon wasn't able to get it all. E.g., Glioblastoma usually has a prognosis of ~6 mos. Yes, it depends on which area of the brain is affected as to what effects will be noticed. It's not unusual for there to be personality changes (frontal lobe) which can be very difficult for the family to cope with. If the motor center of the brain is affected, there will be muscle weakness & coordination issues. If it's in the brain stem, where all our autonomic functions are centered, it can affect swallowing, respiration, heart, etc. Treatment options should be discussed with the specialists & the family. Some people opt for no treatment in order to have a better quality of life for a shorter time. You might consider a support group. Family support is vital. May you all have the strength to cope with this journey. Prayers being said. God bless.
