The 1/4 inch guide with the side helps me quite a bit.

I have several machines, and when it comes to that scant 1/4 in seam, I have found certain feet work best with certain machines. My FW works best with the orginal foot and Nova's 1/4 in guide. My Viking also works best with orginal foot and a piece of glow tape [used for rulers]. My Rocketeer works best with a clear foot and the lines on the plate.
and just sew ya know, I have a package with over 30 diff kinds of feet, and a clip adapter for each machine, so I have indeed tried them all!

I use a 1/4 inch foot for piecing. I do not have the flange one.

Through the years I have used a regular foot with whatever seam allowance it worked out to be, I think 3/8. I have used a 1/4 inch foot that was a narrower foot with red lines on it for stopping 1/4 inch from the edge (this foot was very accurate and worked well with my cheapo white sewing machine), and a 1/4 foot that has an edge to abut your fabric up against. I find this foot is most difficult to wok with when sewing curves as you cannot see the actual edge.

I usually use my 1/4" foot. But sometimes I get lazy and use what's on.

Until I have to rip out stitches and then I put on my 1/4" foot

This is my favorite for an accurate scant 1/4" on my featherweight machine..

Once you use a quarter inch foot, you'll never go bavk.... No guesswork, no tape, no sticky thungs in yiur machine... Just a nice, accurate quarter inch foot is all you need..

I have two 1/4" feet with the guide. One is called "O" foot. The second foot is a 1/4" scant foot and it is called an "O2". I'm assuming they are Janome feet as I got them through my dealer for my Janome 6600P. But they work on my old New Home and the Janome Magnolia.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy one. I'm waiting until after my visit to MSQC in a week or so!
