Looking for an easy Lone Star Quilt pattern..

Hi, not been on for awhile. Busy starting new business...more later on that.

I thought the lone star was 5 points, but finding others that have six points. Arrgh. Which is it? Any thoughts, ideas, help, wine, etc. gratefully accepted.

Every lone star quilt I've seen had 8 points.

Most traditional Lone Star quilts are 8 points.

This one does not have "Y" seams. http://www.modabakeshop.com/2015/04/...tar-quilt.html

Lone Star - Easy - I think that is an oxymoron. The Texas Lone Star does only have 5 points - but the typical Lone Star Quilt has 8.

            Mine has 8 points. https://www.google.com/search?q=lone...w=1277&bih=712

I wonder what star you are seeing that has only five points? It's most certainly a different star.

If you're not interested in sewing "Y" seams here's a tutorial that eliminates them. http://prettylittlequilts.blogspot.c...asic-star.html

I highly recommend you watch this video at Fat Quarter Shop with Edyta Sitar. She is known for her 8-point stars. It's an excellent beginner video. I'm hoping to make the star she demonstrates in the intermediate lesson. You'll see that one listed to the right of the beginner star video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?annota...&v=qV-LPJpl0JU

If you purchase the quilts art interfacing you can accomplish the quilt with jelly role strips and no cutting funny angles.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R1CLjUTJbLE

I have always wanted to try this. My LQAS has.....so many projects, so little time. Have fun with whatever you decide!

We are going to do a small Lone Star at the Fall forum retreat. It is from a pattern in a book called Jelly Rolls. It is very easy to build by strip piecing, and uses a ruler with a 45 degree line. Piece of cake!

This Texan knows Our Star has 5 points. With that said, I just look at the source and shake my head and admire the beauty of the 8 points and say-- what a pretty star.
FYI--- I am working on a Lone Star with 8 points

FYI: The pattern is called Lone Star because its one single large star in the middle, ie; alone. NOT because it's the Texas Lone Star.

Can someone post a pattern of the 5 pointed pattern? I haven't seen it.

I'm with the others. The Texas Lone Star pattern is an 8 pointed star. Even though every Texan knows the lone star of Texas that on the emblem, Texas Rangers, sherriffs, belt buckles, etc is a 5 pointed star. The quilt is an 8 pointed star though.

                            "What is a Lone Star?
It is a large, single star that covers most of the quilt top.

The star has eight points, and each section is comprised of pieced diamonds. Once the star is finished, large triangles and squares are sewn in, creating a large, square quilt top. The star can also be appliquéd onto a large piece of background fabric. From here, some quilters like to add borders, while others add smaller stars to the background to fill up the blank spaces."
                            from http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2013/07/lone-star-quilts/

There is no quilt pattern named the Texas Lone Star that I know of or can find. The "lone star" as associated with Texas is the one on the flag. I grew up there and never heard of a Texas Lone Star quilt.
