    Labeling Quilting Rulers

    Greetings all!

I have been told "when you go anywhere with your supplies, label everything!" Scissors, cutters, mats all easy enough but how do you label your rulers without blocking measuring marks you need? I recently lost my favorite ruler and with it unmarked, I haven't seen it again. I don't want to keep replacing the same rulers I want new toys to play with Please help.

No I don't think there was any malicious action involved, I was in a hurry and probably left it behind myself

Thank you in advance for any ideas or tips!
    ~Kim

Maybe mark your name on the end of the ruler?

Maybe a micron pen or an address label on the end you don't use as much?

I thought of the address label but it's a 6 1/2" square, one side measures the 1/2" marks and the other does the main 1" marks so I'm flipping it back and forth quite a lot, hence the problem. I had sharpie on it at one point but it wipes off fairly quickly.

Ohhh just read the post again with the micron marker suggestion and had a thought, what about clear nail polish over the marker? Anyone ever tried that?

I have used a dymo hand held label maker with a transparent background to mark my rulers and cutting mat. It has worked pretty well. Sorry you lost your ruler.

I was going to suggest Sharpie but I see you've tried that. I have seen some people loop some ribbon through the ruler if they have a hole in the ruler. That is readily visable so people would also realize they had the wrong one if they picked that up by mistake. That is easy to do at retreats where your supplies get intermingled with your neighbor's.

My Nana used to mark my stuff with colored nail polish when I was a kid. What if you got some outrageous color at the dollar store and put a few dots somewhere that is not in the way... like a pattern that you'd recognize?

I use red nail polish and put my initials on everything that I can. If I take something small to a class I make a nice red ring around it that really stands out. One of my friends laughed that I not only marked my scissors but had written on the blades in permanent marker: No! Rick! No! so my DH wouldn't take my fabric scissors and use them.

I got some small clear flower stickers that I use to mark my rulers and tools. They're small so I can put them in a corner and they don't get in the way, but I know they're there when I go to quilt away from home.

You could print small clear address labels to put on them. I might consider applying them with modge podge so that no one could peel them off.

I marked my items with a Sharpie in an area where it didn't interfere with anything.

I use a Sharpie marker. If you eve want to take the marking off just use alcohol on a cotton pad.

How about a sleeve for it to remind you to put it away?
