    Default Craft table top...

Here we go, I want to build a new crafting table.
    I hesitate between a 5/8 inch plywood top and a hollow indoor door 36 x 80.
my only worry is which one will warp more over time.
I will use a bookcase at each end for support.
    any experience with this????

    here is a model:

I wonder if the 5/8 board will cave down eventually....I think the door would be more sturdy.

    What say you?

Could you turn it over every six months or so to discourage it from warping?

My best invention was to move two matching sideboards back to back to the centre of the room and put marine ply (cut to size} on top.

I actually found a cheaper way. Bought a folding table at Walmart, for about the price of the plywood. It's 30X72. I liked it so much I got 2 0f them.

Plywood shouldn't warp because of the way it's made. A hollow core door would be a good bet too, if you can stand the extra height it would give you. Like the idea of extra storage under the table. I sorta did that with my drop-leaf table from eons ago. Put something under it to store. The folding table idea isn't as great if you're taller, unless you can find bed risers. Any way you go - GO FOR IT!

Bed risers or a 4X4 rail on each end with a shallow hole drilled for the legs is even better. I'm short and didn't really need extra height.

I purchaseda large piece of plywood and had them cut it down for me to 4feet by 3 feet. I put a couple bookcases under. Works great. I wrapped the plywood with batting and cotton fabric. My cutting mat is on top. It works as a pressing space and cutting space. Awesome.

When MM made mine, we went to Costco and bought some nice 5' long by 6' tall shelves. We assembled them so we had two pieces, each 3' tall x 5' long. He then routed around the edges and rounded the corners of a piece of plywood he had cut to fit, top and bottom. He bolted the plywood to the top of the shelving units and it works fabulous!!!

What about a hollow core door?
