    Log Cabin Border Decisions

border added log cabin.jpg I've added my borders and the quilt is now 84 x 84. I have more of the print fabric I used in the border with the white.

borders log cabin.jpg I'm considering adding another border of the red print. Do you think it will be too much with the red cornerstones.

Thanks for looking, I'd appreciate your thoughts!

    I personally think it's gorgeous!

I like how you did a solid red border first, it really frames the quilt.

How large do you want the quilt to be?

It's beautiful! I'm not sure I like the corner stones. The quilt is so delicate in a way and with the stones it looks heavy in a way. I never made something that big, so In person it probably looks balanced.

I think the quilt is stunning and the cornerstones distract and make it look heavy on the edges. Simpler may be better....

Could the red cornerstones be changed for white ones? Then add the print border. Love your quilt.

I looked at it again and I think it would be cool with the swirly for the stones.Pulls the last border in.

You're right, the red cornerstones are too much. I'm going to come up with another plan.

              Thank you everyone.

Just beautiful, I agree with the others that big red corner stone should be changed. A red and white quilt is on my list for a future quilt, I have a drawer full of red fabrics just waiting.

Went and looked at the picture again, a good solution might be 3 little corner stones going to that corner, hope this helps.

Absolutely gorgeous! But, I agree with the others that the solid red cornerstones should be softer... I love the last big red border, though... You did a beautiful job on this quilt... Red and white is so vibrant...

Love the log cabin blocks, the reds and whites go so well together. I also find the red cornerstones take away something from the quilt, maybe white or red print cornerstones would add more to the quilt and then the red print border to finish it off beautifully.

The quilt is beautiful and I love the red and white fabric choices. Only you know what will be pleasing to your eye so the final decision is all up to you. Thanks for including us though!

                              Re: Log Cabin Border Decisions

I am in the minority as I like the red cornerstones. However, two "fixes" could be:

                              1) Heavy quilting in the cornerstones with white thread
                              2) make 9-patch corner stones, using the opposite configuration of the white/red/white stripes. The nine patch would be -

                              red/white/red
                              white/red/white
                              red/white/red

I love the addition of the final border, too.
