    Default Houndstooth Tubes

I was just watching the tube quilt tutorials. I've been thinking about making a houndstooth quilt, which looks to me to be a variation of the hourglass block, alternating solid squares of course to create the houndstooth design. When I saw the hourglass block as one of the variations, I was inspired. I do wonder if there will be enough of the corner of the diagonal stripe after the seam allowance. I guess I wanted to ask to get some experienced advice to see if this method of tube quilting might indeed lend itself to a houndstooth quilt pattern.

I think the only way to know if it will work for sure or not is to make a sample block. Sometimes what I see in my head doesn't translate the way I want in fabric. It sounds like it would be a sharp block if it works out for you,,,black and white houndstooth set with red. Good Luck.....

I'm working on a test patch. It's going to be a quick and east quilt to put together. I used 2 inch strips. My squares came out to be 4 inches.

I can't get the image to work:

Ooooohhhh............can't wait to see how this turns out. I'm a University of Alabama alumni and have 2 boys going there now. Would REALLY love to see how this goes since I might want to try it myself!

Interesting. I need to find a picture of the whole quilt. I'm not quite sure what it's going to look like? I'm not familiar with the "Houndstooth pattern."

Wow!!! I just googled "Houndstooth quilt!!!" What a cool pattern. It looks complicated from a distance until looking at it close up. How super simple! That'd be a super quilt for a guy. Picture it out of a small plaid. I think the tube demo would definitely work. Let us know if you're successful with using that method for the striped block. I'm so excited! This is a great pattern for a masculine quilt. I have some guys I need to make quilts for and trying to find something that has a manly look isn't always that easy.

I just looked at one too and it is beautiful. I think what you are doing is exactly the same. Check it out...

Has anyone figured out how to do that striped block for the Houndstooth quilt? Does the tube work? Or do we go a different route?
