Default 2016 BOM - Stained Glass Paper Piecing

I'm fairly new to paper piecing and never done a stained glass style quilt although I have admired them. When considering if I should do this BOM I thought - heck ya, with paper piecing those little black strips will be easy peasy.

Yup, until you have to join the units together. Something I neglected to even consider. I think it took me more time to join the 6 units together then it did to piece all of them. But I did it and I am pretty happy with the results. Very thankful that they will be spaced out once a month. Not sure I could handle them all at once. I haven't decided yet if I am going to square them up or keep them hexagon shaped - I'll decide at the end when they're all done.

The original pattern has you add some additional pieces to the sides of the hexagone to make a block in the shape of a square instead of hexagon.

Okay, that sounds much better than cutting it. I am sure whichever way would great. Looking forward to seeing more.
