This is something that I've been thinking that I would like to do, as well. In fact, I've been adding layer cakes to my wish list. It makes me wish I didn't already have several quilts planned that I need to make first!

Without the borders, a quilt made this way would measure 66.5 X 57. If you used a one inch inner border and a 5 inch outer border (for example), your finished quilt would be 78.5 X 69.Originally posted by SherylM View Post

Here is what I think: Anita used layer cakes with 42 squares. She put them together 6 across and 7 down to use all 42. Then figuring a 2" finished inner border (cut 2 1/2") and outer borders finishing at 4 inches (cut 4 1/2"), the approximate size would be 69x78 1/2 inches.
These are lovely quilts, Anita!! Your idea is a great way to make stunning quilts. Jenny has a tutorial on this but she scalloped the edges on hers.
