    Default Bernina 1120

There is an intriguing Bernina 1120 on my local Kijiji. I have never purchased a vintage machine before. I did however recently purchase a new Janome machine, so I know to take various samples with me to sew.

Does anyone have/have had this machine that can provide a review?

I look forward to any help.

    Many thanks,

    Lynda

Sorry mine is a Bernina 1230. I have had it for about 30 years and still love it. Good luck. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you.

The old Berninas are usually awesome.
If a descent price , I would go test drive it!!

Like KarenC, I have the old 1230 which is from a similar era as the one you are considering. If it is in good condition I would strongly consider it. Check under the hood to be sure it has been taken care of (rust would not be a good sign) but like I said, if it has been well-maintained you could end up with an awesome machine.

I too have a 1230. I've had it about 30 years and love it. I have a 730E too but the 1230 is my go to machine. I've never had an issue with it.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I brought the little Bernina home yesterday.

It is in decent condition, I mean it has some scratches, but there are only on the surface.

When we got there, I looked at the samples that the lady who was selling it had sewn and it looked good. Of course, I brought along a quilt sandwich and just a normal scrap to run through. Ran through the scrap through and it was great; however, when I tried to reverse (there are two ways to reverse on this machine), neither would work. I wasn't too worried.

My husband tried and the seller tried, but none of us could the machine to reverse. So, I schmoozed a deal ($100 off the machine) and brought her home.

My husband is a major "Mr. Fix It" and I figured if he couldn't get it to reverse, then I would take it in for servicing. In about 2 hours he had both reverse functions working and had cleaned up and oiled the machine.

I think I got a major deal. I have just run a bobbin and threaded with my fave thread, Aurifil, and it is sewing like a dream.

    Doing a MAJOR happy dance

    Congratulations!!!! That is awesome!!!
    Point and lesson...
Never pass up an opportunity to check out an old Bernina!
    They will run forever,
and (I know this will stir a hornet's nest) ... they sew better than a Featherweight!
    Happy Quilting!

Yeah! Glad you were able to get it. Keep on going with that happy dance each time you use her.

Based on my first test of putting through a quilt sandwich that had been folded in half again (therefore, double thickness) and it handled that NO problem, it's gonna be a joy to sew on.
