Default WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHRISTMAS COOKIE?

Elaine21 posted in Chit Chat that every years she makes tons of cookies for Christmas gifts. Nowadays I only make a few dozen but am always interested in trying a new recipe. What is your or your family recipe?

There was a cookie my grandmother made that was in a ball and had chopped walnuts and then rolled in confectioners sugar. I don't know the name of it or have the recipe but I loved it. If anyone knows what it is or has a recipe I'd love to see it!

Angel Slices ( also called Dream Bars) from " Joy of Cooking". I have been making them since I was 12-- oh my that was 60 years ago.
if I am in Brazil Christmas time I only do bar cookies. I don't have central air so no roll cookies or even drop ones where I would have to stay long in the kitchen. Sometimes I will have Christmas Cookie Feast in July.

Carlie, the name of those cookies are Russian Tea Cakes or Mexican Wedding Cakes. The recipe is super simple butter, confectioners sugar, and chopped pecans. then rolled in more confectioners sugar. You should be able to find it on line. If not I will post it. DH loves these cookies. I make lots of them because he eats them as I'm rolling them in the sugar. Kathy

Were the nuts chopped or ground. I do one that uses ground nuts.

These have different names. But if you look up Mexican wedding cookies that's one.

I like snickerdoodles. My dd makes them from cake mix, but I like them from scratch.

My mother made these awesome date cookies for Christmas. My sisters, brothers and I loved them. After I married I asked her for the recipe, but she'd never give it up. After years of pestering, she finally relented and said "it was a boxed mix I added the dates. Good cookies good memories. Kathy

Marta, the nuts are almost ground. I use a knife and chop the nuts "very small". If I use my little electric chopper, I either end up with nut butter,or nut chunks. Kathy

Yes nuts were almost ground. Thanks guys!

Oh and it's not a cookie but I think of them kind of like a cookie. Stuffed Dates! dates with a slice of walnut in the middle and rolled in confectioners sugar. Put a plate out and I'd eat the WHOLE thing. We use to have them for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don't know why I don't think of them during the year. So silly because I LOVE them and they are so easy to make.
