This is a recipe that my Aunt Vi made but with the addition of M&M's and eyeballs to make silly turkeys...

Every year I make the Russian tea cakes, my family has certain cookies they like each year at holiday time and that's one of their faves, also rainbow cookies are high on the list. My fave is shortbread.

Well the favorite of most of my family is the cherry mash bars. The first time I made them was about 29 or 30 years ago. A few years after that I always had help bringing in stuff from my car. The first one to find the cherry mash bars tried to hide them. Now that we are all grown and most live in different states, I make and send them out. I usually have to make at least 4 batches to have enough to go around.

YES, RECIPE WANTED - I'D LIKE TO TRY THEM AS BARS EASIER TO MAKE THAN ROLLED OR FORMED COOKIES.

Sure I will share, I received the recipe from a gal that I used to work with.

                    Cherry Mash Bars

                    2 Cups Sugar
                    2/3 Cup Pet Milk
                    1/2 Cup Margarine
                    12 Regular size marshmallows
                    Dash Salt
                    10 Oz pack Cherry chips
                    1 tsp Vanilla

                    3/4 Cup peanut butter
12 Oz pack semi-sweet chocolate chips
8 1/2 Oz pack salted peanuts, chopped

Over low heat melt the chocolate chips and peanub butter. Add chopped nuts.
Spread half of mixture in a buttered 9x13 pan. Refrigerate to set.

Combine the first 5 ingrededients over low heat. Bring to a boil, and boil
for 5 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat and add cherry chips
and vanilla. Stir until chips are melted. Pour over chocolate mixture.
                    Refrigerate to set.

Pour remaining half of chocolate mixture on top off cherry mixture.
Refrigerate to set. cut into bars to serve.

I have never heard of or seen cherry chips. Must be a regional thing? I am going to ask my local grocers to see if they can get it.

we always did butter cookies and seafoam candy. Took them to the neighbors in decorated 3 lb coffee cans. That dates me, doesn't it

I never cared for them, but my mom made stuffed dates every year at Christmas. Thanks for the memory.

My mom used to make a black walnut cake. It was my brother's favorite - it was his birthday cake every year.

I made some white chocolate chip with cranberries and they are one of the best cookies I have ever eaten. I just followed the recipe on the back of the chips but did not use nuts, I added the Craisens and they are just wonderful and very easy drop cookies.
