    Default Stained glass window effect

I took a picture of this quilt at a quilt show in the summer (it's a little blurry because it was taken with my mobile). I absolutely love it but I can't find anyone who knows how to get this kind of effect with black outline setting off the colours.

Anyone have any ideas how to go about it? It seems to thin for bias strips, each square was about 6"

I'd say it was a sashing or something like a border, but then I have never did this before so I am guessing. I did a search and there are alot of free places that you can look at and alot of them had this design feature in them.

    hope this helps you

What an AWESOME quiilt!!! It looks like the black borders are just sashing; looks like they quilted also on the black edges, which make it appear to jump out even more. Also they quilted around the individual patterns in each of the blocks, which really made those jump out also. Love the colors, and it really does look like a stained glass window! Very cool!!! Thanks for sharing.

What part do you want help with?
I agree that it looks like narrow black sashing between the blocks.
I am thinking that the black outline around the patterns are quilted with black thread or possibly a heavier item like embroidery floss, pearl cotton, or craft floss for the thicker outline effect.

It's hard to tell in the picture but the black outlines within the blocks (not the sashing) were made from fabric. They are very thin - smaller than a 1/4 inch - and I can't figure out if she's painstakingly foundation pieced every one or if there was an easier way.

A satin stitch around the blocks after they're pieced might have the same effect

Talking Re: Stained glass window effect

I recently made a wonderful baby quilt by just using a Bali Batiks charm pack and the oreo jelly roll for sashing. It turned out great. When I quilted it to the back I just went along the edge of each charm pack square in black. It looked just like a stained glass window and was SUPER easy!
