Default Making a Log Cabin. So lost....

I know I want to make a log cabin for my eldest girl with all that lovely purple fabric I bought. It is her favorite color. I've been sitting here looking at my "Still Stripping" book by Eleanor and for some reason it is like I am trying to read Gaelic or something. It just isn't sinking in. I found this video online and I am wondering if this is what Eleanor is trying to explain in her book. Or if you guys make your log cabins this way? This is just part 1, but it gives you an idea of what she is doing if anyone has the time to look at it. Why don't they just have measurements for each strip you need in the block? I feel so stinking stupid right now.

Sorry, I just couldn't listen to her anymore. When she ripped the material I had to stop it there. there are many other tutes that would be more simplified than this one. Quilt in a day is usually very easy to follow. Maybe you should look there.

I think you'll find it better to understand.

I just glanced at her method and sometimes the shortcuts are nice, but she totally is confusing me! Maybe if you type in log cabin quilt block, there will be a site that will give you specific strip measurements. I've only ever made 1 block and that was many years ago.
Please don't ever feel stupid. Sometimes I have to click on quite a few tutorials for a specific method before my brain 'gets' it.

Alana, thank you for the link. She is doing it the same way as the lady in the video. As a new quilter I don't know if I trust myself enough to do it like that where she pieces togather the strips, then cuts them apart to sew the next strip. Who knows, I may try it that way and take a walk on the wild side. But I think for right now I am going to takes Trish advice and look around for more tutorials first before I cut anything! Thank you ladies. Hugs to you both.

Jenny's tutorials are easier to follow in my opinion. Just take a breather, i am sure you will do fine with it. Sometimes we just need to step away.

Alana, this is so funny - I also find Eleanor difficult to listen to. There are a few others that grate on my nerves and I have to add this lady to my list.
