Default Tipsy tumbler with other shapes

Has anyone made the tipsy tumbler pattern using shapes other than the tumbler? How did it turn out?

Off the top of my head i can't remember one but if using the right color combos of light, med and dark I think the half hexie template could be rather tispy

I've done it with squares. Triangles would be nice also.
    Rescued is my favorite breed.

Yes, I made one by mistake. I was at our quilt retreat last summer and had taken all of my templates because I couldn't decide what project I was going to make. I decided on the tipsy tumbler and instead of using the tumbler template I used the 5" wacky web template. Chatting away with the gals and suddenly about half way thru I stopped and looked and thought this doesn't look right. Sure enough wrong template, but since I was too far into the cutting I just kept going. I call it my "stop quilting and go fly a kite" quilt. I used sewing notions fabric and added little kite tails to each kite. I had it quilted with a variegated thread on the top. The backing is black with spools of thread.

I really love this quilt. It is very colourful and cheery and reminds me of flying a kite. Funny story and your story made me smile.

Thanks for the picture and cute story! Yup, quilters just put those pieces back together, somehow. I think it turned out great!
