Default Quaternary Knots - Chains of Luck & My Custom Quilt Ladder!

I had a productive weekend and finally finished a quilt that started out as a scrappy lap quilt. Most of the fabric is from my grandmothers stash. When my dad saw what I was making, he got all excited and decided to bring over a book of celtic knots that he thought I should incorporate and made a side comment that the quilt should be Queen sized. (That just happens to be the size of his bed...)
The next thing I know, he built me a new quilt ladder for my birthday, complete with celtic knots and dragons at the top! I didn't post until now, since I just finished what will be his Birthday present!

I quilted this simple Irish chain with knots on the border and four point (Quaternary) knots in the white space. I love how it turned out. I want to post it on my blog, but couldn't wait any longer to share!

Now I just need to stop giving all of my quilts away so that I can fill up my beautiful ladder! With all of the luck in this quilt, maybe I will have a long time to work on it!

Isn't give and take wonderful with special people. Your Dad certainly has a way of getting a special quilt. Love both presents.

OMG! This was my dream for an Irish a Chain I made but I caved and had MSQC quilt it in an all over edge to edge pattern. Some day I'll do one with Celtic knots in the centers! Yours is so beautiful! Did you FMQ it? Use an embroidery machine? Long arm? They are so perfect!

I used a long arm, both ruler work and pro-stitch. Placement is tricky, especially for the borders. I learned that chained borders that meet at more than one point are much more difficult to align. I love that from a distance, challenges aren't noticed!

The other new thing I tried on this quilt was double batting. I used cotton on the bottom and wool on the top to help the knots "Pop"!
