Default 48 Batik Jelly Roll Strips - WWYD?

    Hi Everyone!

I have a dilemma I am hoping you can help me solve. Please keep in mind that I am an extreme newbie (have yet to make my first quilt).

This past week, on a complete whim (and unwilling to wait for my MIL, whose going to teach me to quilt, to go shopping with me) I bought 2 rolls of Exotic Batik strips (24 in a pack) and some white yardage. I had no particular pattern in mind when I did this, I just liked the fabric and bought it - call it a rookie flub.

Now, after purchasing this, did it hit me that - I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing and no clue which pattern(s) would be suitable for a beginner quilt using these strips. Duh! I just got distracted by all that lovely fabric and couldn't resist the overwhelming urge to buy it.

My question is: What beginner pattern would you suggest I use them for?

That looks like something I could do! I wonder if it will look ok with white instead of black? I was also looking at coin quilts (do you think those are suitable for a beginner?)

Funny, my MIL saw that pattern and fell in love with it! Do you think that's easy enough to attempt as a first quilt?

I vote a Jelly Roll Race as well. The first quilt I made was a JRR2 in batiks and it turned out terrific.
Just keep in mind you may need to pull a couple of the strips to get the size to work out right.

And like Songbird said, buying batiks are never a mistake. Never.

Here's some jelly roll patterns: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...78.WIyNgLa5Myw

I think with the batiks and your solid white that a coin quilt would be really pretty: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...59.sYXAamxur3E

Since you are a newbie to quilting I recommend not doing the dresden coin because of working with bias (stretchy) edges.
