Default 4-Patch Frenzy in batiks (top)

Yesterday I finished this top. It went together very quickly. It was based off of this tutorial, although I cut from scraps and yardage and altered the sizes a little. At first, I thought the black and white might be too stark, so i tried other combinations. I much preferred the black and white with the other fabrics I used. I don't think it looks too stark at all. I loved making this quilt and I can see more of them in my future.

For those of you who would like to avoid the "waste" left from cutting layer cake squares in the tutorial, here is what I did. I only used from my stash, so I'm not positive about actual yardage to make it.

    cut sizes:
    • batik rectangles - (60) 5" x 10"
    • black and white strips - 2-3/4" strips by WOF or 2-3/4" squares (4-5 strips depending on width - need 120 squares ea. black & white)
    • inner border - 1-1/2" by WOF (8 strips)
    • binding - 2-1/2" x WOF (8 strips)
    • outer border - 4-1/4" by WOF (8 strips. I would have cut 4-1/2" but was a little short on that fabric)

    each "block" = 1 rectangle and 1 4-patch block
    total of 60 blocks
approximate finished size will be 65"x80"

Great job on your 4-patch frenzy top! I will be making this quilt, too and had decided to alter the size of the 4 patches so the 10" squares don't have to be cut down. I have than option because I will be using yardage. Your top turned out great. I also plan to make a Halloween table topper from this pattern too.

Lovely, Beautiful quilt. I too love the pattern and the black/white. Haven't made one yet. I love it with the Batiks!
