    Piecing thread recommendations?

I'm getting ready to start on my Common Bride quilt, lots of small pieces, quite intricate. Just saw DramaMama's post about 1/4 seams and watched Nancy's video - Thanks!

I've never worked with 30 weight thread on the machine, and before I go off and order tons of different ones to try I thought I'd ask your opinions. Money's not an issue really (I LOVE beans and cornbread, really I do!) because I don't mind paying for the best. I shop Superior usually, they have such great stuff. In love with Masterpiece donuts for handwork. I've looked at all their charts, but wonder what you folks use.

I've mostly just used 'whatever' because I didn't have to be too precise, but with all these tiny pieces it's gonna make a big difference.

    Thanks! I love y'all!

I think you should watch the video again. Nancy says to achieve a perfect 1/4 " seam do not use 30 wt thread, use 50 wt thread.

If money is no object than you might want to try 50 wt Aurifil thread. You can even purchase it from the M* shop now.

I don't even use 30 wt. thread for quilting. Definitely, you need 50 wt. for piecing.

I use Connecting Threads 50 weight Egyptian cotton to piece with and usually quilt with King Tut from Superior.

For piecing I use Superior 50 weight So Fine thread in a neutral color. I pair it with a Microtex 80/12 needle and stitch length of about 2.5. Have also used Aurifil but the Superior is slightly less linty and breaks less in my experience.

I have used aurifil and its a great thread, however much prefer. Superior. Masterpiece fell in love with it abt 10 years ago. Not as much lint

I think I meant that! I mean the smallest one - how confusing. Bigger is smaller, huh

I use 50 weight Aurifil cotton thread. It is two strand and is finer than other 50 weight threads that I have used. It makes a nice flat seam. It also has less lint than a lot of threads. If your LQS doesn't have it you can order it from Embroidery Thread | Quilting Thread | Sewing Thread | Embroidery Stabilizers or Hawthorne Threads - Amy Butler, Joel Dewberry, Michael Miller & More

I use 50 wt Aurifil for most piecing. If I'm out of Aurifil I use Connecting Threads cotton 50 wt.

Never use 30 wt for piecing - will have problems when you press your seams. 50 wt mako cotton is fantastic - very strong and presses flat so no piecing distortion. I use Aurifil (which Missouri Star now carries but be careful in ordering - she is carrying 40 wt as well as 50 per the website and 50 is best for piecing) or Madeira Cantona Cotton 50 wt. Hope that helps.

I think one thing that is important ...... Use the same thread throughout your quilt.... Changing threads can make a real difference...

Whatever thread you choose, do whatever is necessary to achieve that quarter inch seam allowance.... If you can't quite do that, just be consistent throughout....

I like Aurifil a lot for piecing. 50 wt 2 ply. Threads and sewing machine needles are confusing! Thread...higher number is thinner thread. Needles...higher number equals bigger needle. I use a 70/10 microtex sharp for piecing btw. In health care needle sizes are the opposite! I have to really stop and think sometimes!
