Default Jelly Race Two -- confused about fabric

Can anyone help me understand what fabric I need to make the quilt in the Jelly Race Two tutorial? The cotton shades light rolie polie, I think, but then do I also need fabric for the white and gray squares? Or do you use white and gray strips from the rolie polie? I've never bought precuts before, so I'm not sure what I'll need...THANKS!

When I made this quilt, I used additional material for the squares. (I actually didn't make squares, either, as I did a variation of the design.) This is what my top looks like:

On my variation of the JRR2 I pulled two strips from the 40 piece jelly roll pack- a dark and a light, because I wanted to stay with all batiks.
But if this were not a batik JRR2, I would have used extra fabric in a contrasting color that still went with the color theme.

You can either use extra fabric for your squares/diagonals/triangles, which will make the quilt wider, or use contrast pieces from the roll, which will make it a tiny bit narrower. I used 3-1/2" by 2-1/2" rectangles to make mine, and they ended up being almost 60" wide before borders.

Oh my, these quilts are all so beautiful! Really, they are just gorgeous. Thanks for the information. I realized that in my bleary state (neither of my two small kids is sleeping well these days) I was actually thinking of the stained glass quilt tutorial, but this still answers my question. It sounds like the jelly roll makes things very flexible. Thank you very much for all your replies!!

This was mine. I used a JR and did the squares in plain black.

If I have some dark strips in the set I don't really like, I will use them as the spacer blocks, like this:

If I like all the colors, I will buy some yardage in a color that works with the set, like this one:
