    Default Janome 8900 question...

    Hello,

Are there any quilters here that have a Janome 8900 ? I have a brand new one that I bought in December and this past weekend I actually pieced a complete quilt top on it. I'm a little disappointed in how it sews over seams...I had to "walk" it across the seams so it would not "hop" a stitch sideways. I am going to take it back in to the dealer....hoping it just needs an adjustment.

How does your machine do going over seams? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    Thanks so much

I have an elderly Janome 11000. It does not exhibit that problem, so hopefully an adjustment to your machine will fix it. Yours is a a high quality machine, not a cheapie, so you should have high hopes.

Were you using the 1/4" foot?

I have that model and each time I use the special foot to try to be extra accurate, I find that no matter how slowly I stitch, the machine will skip one or two to many stitches going over seams. And it's not consistent. After colorful language numerous times, I went back to the regular foot and just use the etched lines on the needleplate and the foot. I get NO skipping with the regular foot.

I use the walking foot and it sews over seams just fine.

Do a search, I think we had a thread with a couple of pages on this. I was struggling as well. Changed to Janome Purple tipped needles and switched the bobbin case out from red arrow to blue arrow. I haven't really struggled since.

I use Aurfil thread, purple tipped needle and 1/4 inch, regular or walking foot handles seams /bulk just fine.

I started using the walking foot for piecing also, it works so much better.

I don't have trouble with mine sewing over seams. It does just fine. I use a topstitch needle from Superior Threads. This is a great machine!
