When I got my first sewing machine about 12 years ago my MIL decided that she wanted to make us quilts. She made DH a quilt and then it started falling apart. Over the years I have been putting it back together by quilting a zigzag stitch where the pieces on the front came apart. It seemed like every month I would have to put a few inches of stitches on it. Then I noticed that the back was getting holes in it and pulling away from the binding. I'm pretty sure that she used very poor quality fabric. We lost her two years ago this month (FIL passed 6 weeks prior to her passing in two completely unrelated incidents).

So I decided to make a new top/back for her quilt. The five and dime seemed fitting since it has that ragged falling apart feel to it. DH is very happy with his new old quilt.

I really hate it when the voices in my head argue among themselves as though I wasn't even in the room.

I tried to be normal once......worst two minutes of my life.

That is so wonderful! The back is fantastic! I love the idea of one giant block as the pieced back. I'm glad you were able to repurpose the quilt. Sweet way to honor your MIL.

Love it! I have a batik five and dime that is off at the long arm quilters. Can't wait to get it back!
