Default Another Thread Question - Cotton or Polyester

I'm still confused. I've followed the Q&A here and watched many videos. What is the preferred thread for piecing, cotton or polyester?

I always prefer cotton when I can get it. Second choice is a cotton blend. I really don't like polyester thread.

It is really your preference. My preference is to use 50 weight cotton for piecing. I like the way the cotton thread "sinks" into the cotton fabric, particularly after pressing the seams. But one of my quilting instructors, with over 30 years of quilting experience, always uses polyester thread for her piecing.

At one time, it was thought that the poly thread could cut some of the weave of the fabric, weakening the fabric. That may still be the case with poor quality cotton. However, I don't think it applies to the majority of quilting cotton that is now available.

I prefer cotton for piecing because than I can leave my iron on the higher cotton setting when I am pressing my seams.

I prefer poly--there is no right answer, simply preference.

I prefer using cotton, I will say I do use up my other thread on certain projects.
