Here is how quiltsmart does their Lone Star using the interfacing (just buy the kit): http://www.quiltsmart.com/Pages/mo_lonestar.htm

Pat, Your Star of Bethlehem is one of the prettiest I've seen. The colors are terrific together and the black pops everything. I love to use black to pop colors and you did a wonderful job. You're such a great quilter....

You have almost inspired me to try again. I get the part about sewing the strips offset and cutting the first 45 degree angle, but then I don't know which way to measure for the next cut. Tried once and the strips would not fit together.

I made mine with strips that were then cut at a 45 degree angle. It went together quickly. I learned a lot. It is a lot bigger than I anticipated. I don't know what to do with this top. It's roughly 120" long I believe. Sending it to a quilter would be too expensive.
A tip I realized after I was done. My quilt ended up puckering the the middle. It figure out it was because of stretching and such. When you sew the strips together cut one color vertical and one the next fabric horizontal...make sense? Then when sewing together don't sew all of them starting on the same side. Alternate which side you start. Make any sense?

Make sure you have sewn your strips together. Then You make your first cut using the 45 degree line on your ruler .. The next cut will be at the 2.5 inch mark.. or whatever the width of your strip is.
