Default Re: Omnigrid rulers - GET THAT YELLOW OUT!!!

I use Omnigrid rulers mostly. When I started quilting that is what I bought. I do now have a few Creative Grid rulers. Guess I must be use to my Omnigrids (or the yellow) because I haven't had any problems with them. When cutting, I don't interchange the two on the same quilt. I think it's like machines - pretty much personal preference. Interesting discussion though.

I bought my first Creative Grid ruler last week while in the Dallas area.
I am just sad that I didn't buy more than one! Hope to go back in a
couple of weeks and will get other sizes. It's so nice not to have my ruler
    move when I'm cutting!

I find the same thing, getting harder to read and cut accurate as I get older. I think the reason is that the yellow lines are between 2 and 3 threads in width. That makes a big difference if you tend to move your ruler a little bit with each cut. If you are cutting something that has lots of little pieces, then over the coarse of the block, you can be off as much as 1/4 inch!

I have every ruler that Ominigrid and Omnigrip makes, and in some cases, a couple of each because I have forgotten that I owned them when they were on sale at Joann's. I, like others, have started to switch to Creative Grids rulers. Not only do they not slip, but they are clear and make it much easier to see just where you are placing your ruler. It is going to be very hard to replace every one of them, but I have stared with some basics like the 12x8 and 6x6. Hopefully I can get the 6x24 here soon.

So far I have the Creative Grids stripology and 12" square rulers and just yesterday I received the 6" square ruler.
I think for now that's all I need.
I'm amazed at how easy it is to cut when you can see the fabric so clearly under the ruler.
Just hate that I am replacing my Omnigrid rulers that I've only had for a few months.

My thoughts exactly. There is a fantastic Fiskars rotary cutter on a ruler that I love but cannot stand the thick white lines. I now only use the Creative Grids rulers because they are so easy to read with the black lines. (I also have an old Fiskars rotary cutter on a ruler with black lines that I love).

I haven't read the replies, but I'm sure you aren't the only one. I thought I was! They do have that 1/8" marking, which is great sometimes. I have the 6" square and the 4" square and use them to square up or cut blocks or half square triangles. When using the full size of the square, they are great, but I agree - that yellow is kind of annoying.

I have I think it's a Fiskars 6" X 24" ruler that I hated at first - it has some light pink lines - ugh when I was cutting out white or pink. I'm getting used to it now, but at first, I wanted to return it.

I'm thinking of buying a 12.5 square, and I think there was a package deal on Omnigrids - so now, after reading this and remembering the yellow on the eyes, I may go with one of the other suggestions.

Sheep Farmer, you will never be sorry that you bought that 12.5" ruler!

I have the same problem. I, too, bought all the Omnigrid when I first started out. I am slowly buying all the Creative Grids and never looking back.

The yellow lines is the reason I have passed on buying those rulers since the day I started quilting. It bothered me.

    I like the clear rulers.

I bought that one too, last year on the bus trip. I love it.
