Default Pros and Cons of Laundering Before Gifting a Quilt

This has probably been much discussed before, but maybe not:
Some always launder a quilt after they finish it. Exactly why? Various reasons? (Mine is to help hide all the booboos I made)
I guess you would NOT launder one if you like that crisp tailored look, and it is to be a wall hanging, or if it were going to be entered into a quilt show.
What other reasons to wash or not?

Gets the dirt and cat hair off from dragging it through the machine and on the floor while quilting. AND to hide the boo boos and sink the threads into the quilt.

I was really aggravated that the black creeper face on the quilts just got covered with fuzz from the batting and flannel backing. Brushing them before and after washing/drying helped, but I don't think I would make another of those. The black fabric seemed to be a real lint magnet. (they were "mine craft" quilts for grand daughters who are mine craft addicts.)

I always wash my quilts before I gift them. I want to take care of any unhappy surprises before I give it away. So, off with the dirt from handling and sewing and off with the cat hair and threads (really?!? I always think I get rid of those threads). I check the freshly laundered quilt for seams that may be coming undone, then I hug it to check it for its love quotient. Once it passes my inspections, it's off to the new owner with washing instructions.

I always wash mine mostly to get all the germs, dirt and threads washed away. A lot of my quilts are the lap quilts that I give to my oncology patients and I want to make sure they are clean before I hand them over.

Also to remove any chemicals in the fabrics & make sure no colors ran into others. I always give printed washing instructions along with the quilt to the recipient.

I like to wash with Color Catchers just to make sure nothing will bleed. I don't think a lot of non-quilters know about them and I would hate for someone to think they ruined the quilt on the first wash.

I put a finished quilt into the washer and dryer as soon as it's bound. I use spray basting, which I want to get out, it gives the quilt a weird stiff feeling, but even before I used the spray basting I would wash quilts. I guess I like how they get a bit old fashioned looking after washing and drying.

I washed one recently and I hadn't realized that the fabric I used for the backing was very prone to bleed dye. I'm sure glad that happened at my house, not the gift-receiver's house.
