Default What sewing machine should I buy?

I have been researching and am debating between a Janome Skyline S5, pfaff expressions 3.5 and the Janome Horizon Memory Craft 8900 as my low, middle and high options for my budget. Any thoughts? Is the Janome skyline sufficient, will I outgrow it or is it worth it to go for the Memory Craft? Anyone prefer Pfaff and why?

I have no direct knowledge of any of the models listed but I am a huge Janome fan! I have Janome 6600P and I love it. If your budget allows I say go for the best possible. I have never regretted spending a little more on a quality machine. If you haven't actually set down and sewn on them all I would highly recommend doing that. And take samples of the fabric, batting, etc that you would be using so you'll have a true test of what the machine will do. Also buy from a reputable dealer that offers good service on what they sell. Free lessons to learn the machines are handy too.

I started out with a Janome Dc2012. My husband bought me a slightly used 8900 for our 25th anniversary. Came with the extension table, knee lift many different feet as standard, most still in the factory sealed packages, two needle plates. Paid less than half what a new machine would cost. I love the 11 inch throat space on it and plows through anything I throw at it!

I started out using a Singer Confidence Quilter and found that it wasn't big enough in the harp area for quilting, ended up using an old Singer Treadle to quilt my first quilt. I bought a Janome 6600P, it has a 9 inch throat. I have quilted a Queen size quilt on it and didn't really have any problems. I love my Janome!

I have the Janome 7700 and love it to pieces. Very easy to learn. I didn't need classes and I hadn't used any machine in over 30 years.

I have the Janome 8900. Good quilting machine! Don't know anything about the other two models.

I am a Pfaff girl and would never own anything else. Why? Two reasons, one is ease of use. The best reason IDT no big bulky walking feet.

I've just visited the sewing store again and I'm really leaning toward the Pfaff 4.2. The built in walking foot seems like it will be a great feature.
